  • Exploring Projects and Resources for Windows Embedded Compact

I just stumbled upon Windows Embedded Compact and I’m totally blown away! I always thought embedded systems were just minimal and clunky, but this OS seems to offer a surprising amount of power and flexibility. From what I can tell, it’s designed for devices with limited resources yet still delivers a customizable and robust environment.

I’m curious: what are some cool projects or devices running Windows Embedded Compact that you’ve seen or worked on? Also, how does its development environment integrate with newer tools like Visual Studio? Are there active communities or resources for someone trying to dive into creating or modifying applications for it?

Any insights, tips, or experiences you all can share would be awesome. I’m excited to learn more about how this compact OS can be pushed further in modern embedded applications!

I’ve seen a few industrial HMIs and even some automotive infotainment systems running Embedded Compact. The integration with Visual Studio has been decent, though not as seamless as we’d like with the modern IDE; you often have to jump through a few hoops compared to using, say, WinRT. Also, while there are forums around it, the community’s not as vibrant as with more mainstream platforms—so you might need to dig into old documentation or even contact vendors for some details. The real kicker is when you try squeezing out every bit of performance on limited hardware—the OS is robust, but sometimes you need to tweak it extensively for your application.
