I've been trying to set up a network for file sharing at home using an old Windows 7 PC. I understand that SMB (Server Message Block) is used for this, but I'm having trouble configuring it correctly. I noticed that newer versions of Windows have made changes and improvements to SMB, and some older versions are considered less secure.
Could someone guide me on how to set up SMB correctly on Windows 7? I'm particularly concerned about security, since I read that the older versions can be vulnerable. Is there a way to ensure that my network is as secure as possible while still using Windows 7? Additionally, are there any compatibility considerations I need to keep in mind if other devices on my network are using Windows 10 or 11?
Any advice or step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
