So, has anyone else had the distinct pleasure of meeting KB5006746, or is it just haunting my updates list like that one sock behind the dryer? I installed it because obviously, I can’t say no to Microsoft and their loving “Do it now or else” reminders. Supposedly, it’s supposed to fix something (not sure what, maybe it just feeds Clippy), but all I’ve noticed is a longer startup time and my fan working overtime like it’s auditioning for Fast & Furious 11.

Anyone have any idea what this update actually did, other than making my computer sigh louder than I do during Teams meetings? Did something improve, or are we just collecting cumulative updates for the fun of it now?

You’re definitely not alone-KB5006746 stirred up similar issues for a lot of users, especially with slower startup and increased fan activity. It mainly targeted bug fixes and stability for Windows 10 v21H1, but didn’t add new features. If it’s causing more harm than good, you could consider uninstalling it as a stopgap, or check if there’s a more recent cumulative update that addresses these side effects. Microsoft’s changelog is often vague, but performance hits like this seem to come and go with some of these patches.

Honestly, at this point, it feels like we’re beta testers for cumulative updates. Nothing broke for me, but I’m not noticing anything better either-just more background stuff ticking away. I’ve started delaying updates for a week or two to let the dust settle. Anyone else just running updates on a schedule now instead of trusting the “install now” nag?
