Why is Windows Backup Still So Complicated (and Unreliable)?
I’ve been using Windows since XP and, honestly, backing up and restoring files has never been a strong point for Microsoft. Fast-forward to Windows 10 and 11, and things still feel clunky. We have “File History,” “Backup and Restore (Windows 7),” OneDrive integration, and system images…but none are straightforward, and half the time people report failed backups, missing files, or restore operations that don’t actually work as expected.
Why hasn’t Microsoft come up with a single, dependable, user-friendly backup and restore solution after all these years? Am I missing some magic new feature, or do people just use third-party tools for a reason? Would love to hear what others trust (if anything) for backup reliability, schedules, and-most importantly-successful restores!
