I’ve been using Visual Studio for years, mostly on reliable old Windows 7 32-bit machines. Lately, it seems like both Microsoft and most developers just assume everyone is on 64-bit Windows 10 (or higher). Is there an actual technical reason why later versions of Visual Studio can’t or won’t run on 32-bit Windows 7? Or is this just forced obsolescence and marketing?
Plenty of legacy applications and embedded projects still require Win7 32-bit compatibility. I’m skeptical that Visual Studio couldn’t be made to run with a bit more effort. Anybody got real technical details or has someone managed to get newer Visual Studio (say, 2017 or 2019) working on Win7 32-bit? Or are we genuinely stuck with old versions forever?
