I’m starting to wonder if the new Windows themes and wallpapers are really about innovation or just a cosmetic patch on a tired system. I’ve been using Windows since the days when customization meant tweaking registry entries and finding independent themes that truly let me make the interface my own. Now it feels like we’re being force-fed prepackaged looks via the store, with little real substance underneath.
Why is Microsoft spending so much effort on fancy wallpapers when other aspects of the UI—like file management and system notifications—still feel clunky and outdated? Are these design overhauls a genuine attempt to improve usability, or just a way to distract us from the underlying bloat?
I’d like to know if anyone else feels that these visual changes are more about style over substance, and whether there’s any plan to give users the kind of depth in customization we once took for granted.
