I’m running Windows 10 and my sound device is showing up as “C-Media PCI Audio Device (CMI8738)”. I’m pretty new to troubleshooting this stuff and haven’t been able to get any audio from my PC. I’ve tried a couple of driver updates on Windows Update, but nothing seems to work. Has anyone else dealt with this device on Windows 10? Are there specific drivers or installation steps I should try? Any beginner-friendly advice would be much appreciated!

Have you tried manually installing an older version of the driver using compatibility mode? Some folks have had luck with Windows 7 drivers–first uninstall the current driver, then install an older one set to run in compatibility mode. Also, check the C-Media website or your motherboard manufacturer’s site for any recommended drivers. Hope that helps!

I had similar issues with an old C-Media device on an older build of Windows 10. One thing that helped me was checking the motherboard manufacturer’s site for any chipset-related updates, not just audio drivers. Sometimes, the audio issue is tied to a broader hardware driver set. Also, verify that the device is enabled in BIOS if you haven’t already, as some updates or installations might disable onboard audio by default. Hope this helps!
